Cellulite (aesthetic)

Orange bark on the skin of the thighs, buttocks and abdomen. Very common and not a disease — results from changes in the structure of the subcutaneous tissue.

What is Aesthetic Cellulite

Aesthetic cellulitis — in medical terms, gynoid lipodystrophy — is a change in the structure of subcutaneous tissue resulting in the irregular appearance of the skin known as "orange peel". It affects most adult women, to a greater or lesser degree, and is an essentially aesthetic condition.

It should not be confused with infectious cellulitis — a bacterial skin infection requiring urgent medical evaluation. Aesthetic cellulitis is benign and cosmetic.

Degrees

  • Grade 0 — smooth skin at rest and compression.
  • Grade 1 — smooth skin at rest; "orange peel" at compression.
  • Grade 2 — visible "orange shell" standing without compression.
  • Grade 3 — visible irregularities even in decubitus, with marked relief.

Causes

  • Genetic predisposition
  • Hormonal factors — estrogens play a role in the organization of subcutaneous tissue.
  • Microcirculation changes and lymphatic drainage.
  • Sedentarism and feeding — important modulators.
  • FAT TISSUE INCREASED
  • Loss of underlying muscle tone.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis is clinical. In an online consultation, the dermatologist evaluates photographs of affected areas in various positions and a questionnaire on evolution, habits and expectations. No examination is required in most cases.

Therapeutic approach

There is no single treatment that "eliminates" aesthetic cellulite. The approach is multimodal and realistic — the goal is to improve appearance, not achieve a completely smooth skin.

Basic care

Balanced feeding, regular physical activity (with cardiovascular component and strengthening), hydration. More important factors than any topical treatment alone.

Topical application

There are formulations that can improve the appearance of the skin. Mild effect, complementary to habits. Defined by the dermatologist.

In-office procedures

Several options in a clinical environment, evaluated individually. Results are gradual and require maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

It’s an illness.

Nope. Aesthetic cellulitis is an anatomical and cosmetic characteristic, not a disease. Most adult women have some degree.

Is there a definitive cure?

Nope. It can be attenuated with habits and some procedures, but no treatment permanently eliminates it. Realistic expectations are important.

Is online consultation for aesthetic cellulite?

Yeah. The dermatologist discusses expectations, evaluates the case and proposes a plan — often with a face - to - face component if procedures are chosen.

Only women have cellulite?

Predominantly yes, by the structure of the subcutaneous tissue. It's rare in men. The hormonal component is one of the main reasons for this difference.
